Reference styles for electronic resources

  • Several different styles
  • Corporate author/ anonymous
  • Data needs to be correctly input into the correct EndNote attributes (field) in order for the formatting styles to be able to work correctly.

  • Steps to watch out
    • Automatic (check database website and APA manual)
      • Filter (correct filter from Quosa, Pubmed or specific database)
      • Style (APA...etc. make sure it's the most updated and correct one)
    • Adding manually (check Endnote help files)
      • Reference type
      • Input field and format
        • Author Field:
Enter author and editor names one name per line. If a name is too long to fit on one line, just continue typing—the text will wrap automatically.
          • Press after each author name to add another author.
          • You can enter author names as (e.g., Fred Smith) OR (e.g., Smith, Fred). Entering in the format is preferable because it will enable EndNote to “auto-complete” a name for you if you have entered that name before
          • Authors with titles such as “Jr.” or “III” should be entered in this format: (e.g., Smith, Fred, Jr.).
          • For corporate authors, enter a comma after the name of the organization (e.g., U.S. Department of Energy,). This will ensure that EndNote interprets the corporate author as a last name and alphabetizes it properly.
          • If you do not know the author’s name, leave the Author field blank (do not type Anonymous, unless Anonymous is printed on the title page of the work).
          • For multiple authors, enter all of the author names. If a bibliographic format requires the use of “et al.” or “and others,” EndNote will format this automatically. Only enter “et al.” if you
do not know all of the author names.
        • Year Field: Use four digits.
        • Title Field:
Enter titles on one line, even if they are very long. If a title is too long to fit on one line, just continue typing—the text will wrap automatically.
          • Do not add a period or other punctuation at the end of a title. EndNote will add formatting punctuation to your references automatically depending on the output style you’ve chosen.
        • Pages Field: You can enter page ranges as full (e.g., 1654-1658) or abbreviated (e.g., 1654-8).
          • EndNote will format these properly depending on the output style you’ve chosen.

SAS syntax conventions

  • Conventions
    • Syntax Conventions
      • UPPERCASE identifies SAS keywords such as the names of statements and
procedures (for example, PROC GCHART). Also identifies
arguments and values that are literals, (for example, NOLEGEND
        and LABEL=NONE).
      • italic identifies arguments or values that you supply. Items in italic can
represent user-supplied values that are either
        • nonliteral values assigned to an argument (for example,
          axis-color in COLOR=axis-color)
        • nonliteral arguments (for example, VBAR chart-variable. . . ; ).
In addition, an item in italics can be the generic name for a list of
arguments or parameters from which the user can choose (for
          example, appearance-options).
      • < > (angle brackets)
identify optional arguments. Any argument not enclosed in angle
        brackets is required.
      • | (vertical bar) indicates that you can choose one value from a group. Values
separated by bars are mutually exclusive.
      • . . . (ellipsis) indicates that the argument following the ellipsis can be repeated
        any number of times (plot-request <. . . plot-request-n>, for
example). If the ellipsis and the following argument are enclosed in
angle brackets, they are optional. In SAS/GRAPH software, an
ellipsis also indicates a range from which a value is selected
        (LINE=1 . . . 46, for example).
      • () parentheses: used to indicate things to put instead of typing in literally

Is it possable to make the narrator software read a complete web page text or
Word doc text? I've been playing with it for about an hour without success.
It reads toolbars just fine, but as for a web page's text or a Word doc, when
I press insert/F7, the command to read the page, it replies 'blank page'.
Suggestions? Is it limited such that it doesn't read docs or is it the end
user's limitations, LOL?

try the latest Opera WebBrowser 9.xx - it' is free ( www.opera.com ) and it
has a builtin narrator (male english voice ) - reads whole webpages in a
good way.

Selection of mobile device

3 wireless connections
  1. GPS~ mostly put in the car
  2. Wi-Fi~ use restricted more by availability of free connection ; also, for a mobile device, rather give (blogging/PIM) than take (searching/browsing/downloading)
  3. Mobile phone~ better small
Selection:

(For a lot of time on meetings and transportation)
  1. PDA with GPS and Wi-Fi; and/or a phone with at most a medium sized screen featuring GPS ,PIM and recording (better than a phone with musics)
  2. A PDA with Wi-Fi, a GPS and a regular phone
(For a lot of time in front of a computer)
  1. PDA with GPS and Wi-Fi and a regular phone
3 multimedia functionality
  1. musics : need to pay for collections
  2. videos (photos for others): need time for downloading and conversion
  3. games: need time to play
Selection: depends on use mostly during driving, jogging, walking, taking a bus, or waiting (availability/portability/relaxing effect : musics> videos> games)

Life stages/ curves/ cycles/ development

I'm thinking of a software that can store meaning life events of different aspects and navigate like a map or with other ways of presentation.
  • Life events
    • Quantifying measures: duration, score, ranking, satisfaction...etc.
    • Hyperlinks: information
    • Labels
  • Presentation
